All protocols duly observed.
In a country like Nigeria, it’s no news that professional photographers are firstly a vague idea to about 80% of individuals who need photography services. Many believe a photographer is any individual with a camera, any individual that knows where the shutter button is and most importantly any individual who can just say ‘cheese!!!’. This is totally wrong, not everyone is a photographer and not every photographer is a professional photographer.
A professional photographer is an individual who earns 100% of his income from photography. He/She is well groomed in the knowledge of photography and understands what goes on in her image environment not just clicking the camera. They run businesses so take cost effective measures in their job and would hardly shoot for the artistic side of life. The artist however tends to be more of a personal image gratifying beast (Lakin Ogunbanwo is a vivid example) but in the country where times are a bit hard, it’s difficult to just be an artist alone, especially as a university student which I am.
All protocols dully observed,
Its becoming an eyesore the way professional photographers are viewed. It would be impossible for me to wake up and just pick up their phones in search of a photographer on the day I need them, so should it be impossible for you too. I Do not know about you, but as for me, I have several pre – event formalities that’s are meant to guide our interests equally. I want to call on photographers and clients likewise to try and always respect our protocols. We are great lovers of smooth business transactions and we want things to always go well that’s why we have these protocols which are meant to be observed. Finally, I’ll be writing once every two days now, it’s a challenge I’m putting on myself. I hope you come around often.
